Abstract:

Development of methods for investigation of effective action in N=2 and N=4 extended supersymmetric field theories within the approach of harmonic superspace which provides the explicit off-shell N=2 supersymmetry. Computing corrections to the low energy effective action, developing techniques for multi-loop calculations and cancellation of harmonic singularities. The project involves consideration of specific filed models with extended supersymmetry including the models of hypermultiplets, N=2 super-gauge theories, N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and supergravities, investigation of general properties of effective action in these models, fulfillment of both perturbative and instanton calculations of effective action.

Investigation of dualities in string/M-theory and in gauge field theories. Studies of D-brane scattering processes, evaluation of quantum corrections to the effective action of super Yang-Mills theories describing D-brane dynamics. Construction of a quantum scheme for description of quarks interaction within the framework of duality between string theories in anti-de Sitter spacetimes and gauge field theories in Minkowski spacetimes.

Application of the harmonic-superspace approach for a geometric description of self-dual gauge and gravity theories and for a classification of supersymmetric gauge theories and supergravities in low dimensions, in their intimate relationships with the superstrings, p-branes and M-theory.

The study of new symmetry structures in the models with the partial spontaneous breaking of extended supersymmetries and the analysis of their relation to superbranes in a fixed gauge; in particular, the description, within the nonlinear realizations approach, the spontaneous breaking of N=4, D=4 supersymmetry down to N=2, D=4 and N=(2,0), D=6 to N=(1,0), D=6, the revealing of a possible relation of this theory to M5-brane and supersymmetric Born-Infeld models.

The general geometric and group-theoretical structure of superhierarchies with the N=2,3,4 supersymmetry will be analyzed. The N=2,3,4 supersymmetric Liouville equation with spontaneously broken supersymmetries will be constructed and its relevance in the context of superembedding program will be analyzed. The KdV hierarchies associated with N=3 and ``large'' N=4 superconformal algebras and their integrability properties will be studied. The relationships of these integrable systems with supersymmetric WZW models and superstring and higher p-brane models will be investigated. The problem of construction of N=4 supersymmetric extension of W3 algebra will be attacked using the harmonic superspace approach and non-local Poisson brackets structures.

Development of new methods of covariant and canonical quantization of general gauge theories and their application to specific field models possessing global and local symmetries, investigation of supersymmetry aspects under quantization.
